And Minnesota Ran Outside To Play!

Spring showed up yesterday, and Minnesota ran outside to play!  Almost 70 in early March is not typical for this part of the world.  We could have blizzards for another month.  We still might. But it’s been a low, almost no, snow winter.  And I think that has actually made us more ready for Spring.

I have always said I couldn’t live in a place that didn’t have four seasons.  But a winter without snow?  It’s dismal.  At least a few good snowfalls give us a white base for the scenery.  We never got that this year.  We had brown and dirty… But still cold.  Ick.

So I got my work done early yesterday and took my husband and my camera out to play… as did the rest of Minnesota it seemed.  There were people everywhere! And at least at the park and zoo, everyone seemed to be in a much better mood.

Her highness napping in the sunshine…

Lion Yawn…

My husband’s favorite… The Polar Bear

There’s nothing green outside yet… but the tropics room at the conservatory had some color going!

The melting park.

The sun shining through the still bare trees.

The kids of Minnesota finally getting outside!

Longing For An Ocean

Today is the first official day of my last spring break ever.  And I’m wishing for an ocean miracle.

I realized this morning, the thing I never did that I always wanted to do: a real spring break.  I’ve went on trips over break, but never to some awesome beach vacation where I could sip a margarita and lay in the sun all day.  That sounds just about perfect right now.

The truth is, I now have to fit a trip to Washington DC into my already packed last 76 days of law school, and there’s just no time for any real spring break.  I will spend this break finishing my bar application, researching how to improve the tax policy surrounding childcare in this country, and learning all about the statutes that govern Corporations.  If that sounds like a completely disheartening waste of a break to you too, then we’re on the same page.

Especially because I’m longing for an ocean.  And sunlight. And warmth.  The only nature I’ve seen in the past few months is gray, and slushy.  And I think my soul could benefit from some ocean waves crashing on my toes.

I’m going to have to settle for daydreams and changing my desktop to pictures of places where I breathed in salty sea air and smiled in the sunlight.  Like Taormina, Sicily.

But the one bright side of this break, finally a little time to carve out for some long lost friends.  I’m off to brunch with someone who always brings a little sunlight into my life.  :) And I stopped at the bookstore yesterday and got a new fabulous read that I’m halfway through.

It’s all about the little things this break.
